The children of the academy are often referred to as "special":
- Hunter's Mother to Hunter: "You are special. You have been since the day you were born."[1]
- Brett and Abraham: "You said we were special" "No-- I said She (Megan) was".[2]
- Ellen Richmond and Vanessa Richmond about Ian Simon: "Ian is a very special boy, Vanessa. And now that he's getting older, he needs to be around other kids like him." "Arn't I special?" "Of course you are, sweetheart. More than you can possibly imagine."[3]
